Job Description

Position Summary

To participate in assigned department research projects and activities with primary functions devoted to data collection, study management, maintenance of IRB records related to the studies, and preparation of reports. In addition, a portion of it will be assisting in the operation of the dialytic service support for the Division of Critical Care Medicine.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.                                                                    

  • Conduct clinic and inpatient visits with research participants – blood drawing, vital signs, questionnaires and interviews.
  • Assess past medical history and health status during routine visits
  • Abstract clinical data from medical charts and medical records
  • Complete case report forms per study sponsor guidelines
  • Perform procedures as necessary for each different study protocol
  • Administer consent forms with prospective participants
  • Track participant adverse reactions
  • Enter participant data into study database
  • Dispense study medication, track inventory
  • Provides daily research support and administrative support for all assigned research projects and related activities.
  • Maintain and track documentation for the IRB as related to annual renewals, study closure, and IRB applications for new study protocols
  • Assists in preparation of research grant and contract proposals and related budgets and justification documents.
  • Coordinates and produces research grant and contract support materials including biographical sketches, other support forms, resource and environment forms, appendix materials, timelines, and other technical documentation.
  • Organize and assist in the management of dialytic services: training will be provided
  • Participates in the development of and maintenance of faculty and computerized research management databases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education           

BA/BS in relevant discipline or college level teaching in a field basic to the work to be performed.

Experience        

Two years of relevant research experience is necessary.   Experience with clinical research, IRBs, and clinical trials is preferred.   Nursing experience is an asset.

Competencies  

Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to communicate providing verbal feedback in a professional manner. Must be able to follow and understand instructions, and react favorably in all work situations.  Must have strong interpersonal skills and be mentally adaptable and flexible in dealing with a variety of people at various levels within and outside the Medical Faculty Associates (MFA).  Must be able to do math calculations and input data into the computer.

Supervision Received

Supervision is received daily from Physician as needed.

Supervision Exercised

Administrative and functional supervision is exercised over an average of 2-10 professional, clerical or technical employees.
