Position Summary:

Coordinates and monitors reimbursement activities of an MFA Department. This position trains physicians and staff in coding and billing in order to maximize revenue generation for the Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine Department. 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Abstract professional and technical charges from clinical information on medical records for the purpose of patient billing. 2. Analyze and interpret medical records to identify and assign CPT and ICD-10 codes on all billable services.
3. Assign and sequence appropriate diagnostic/procedure billing codes in compliance with Medicare and third party payors. 4. Review documentation to establish compliance with teaching physician billing guidelines.
5. Respond to billing and coding questions from providers, staff and administrators.
6. Review patient records and recommend appropriate coding/documentation for deficient records.
7. Provide coding overview and training to staff.
8. Facilitate administrative control of the billing process through the coordination of related activities with appropriate departments.
9. Review coding structures to ensure conformity with CPT requirements.
10. Provide back up to reimbursement specialists in reviewing charges in TES work file.
11. Reviews edits in the billing system and assists with researching any issues that require additional information, communicates with the Business Office as needed and takes appropriate actions to resolve the edits in the billing system.
12. On a daily basis, upload all charges into IDX from RMS to maintain a steady flow of charges.
13. Code all charges for procedures and studies from all areas.
14. Analyze and evaluate medical records for professional services provided and assign appropriate ICD-10 code.
15. Analyze and correct all TES edits in a timely and accurate manner.
16. Analyze and correct all Claims Manager edits in a timely and accurate manner.
17. Act as compliance liaison between MFA Legal Services and the Department.
18. Notify supervisor/manager of any problems that may arise in the various computer systems required to export/import charges (RMS, Pre-Processing, IDX).

Experience Two years coding experience minimum. Computer literacy with Microsoft Office is required with this position.
