Position Summary

Supports General Counsel — Risk Management/Risk Manager in providing risk management services. Performs a variety of both complex and routine duties requiring knowledge and understanding of risk management and other functions as assigned within the Office of the General Counsel.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Ability to review and analyze medical records and other records related to medical care and treatment and create timelines and reports.

  2. Ability to perform legal research using a variety of databases, including Lexis-Nexis.

  3. Maintains accurate and complete records and minutes of meetings, investigations, and or other items.

  4. Ability to investigate under the direction and supervision of the Director of Insurance & Risk Management incidents, event, claims, and/or other occurrences.

  5. Ability to conduct audits under the direction and supervision of the Director of Insurance & Risk Management.

  6. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships.

  7. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing with physicians, staff, patients, and other customers.

  8. Maintains a high degree of credibility, integrity, confidentiality, and trust.

Qualifications:

Education           

  • Clinical healthcare experience required.
  • Registered Nursing degree with an unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the District of Columbia PREFERRED. (Other clinical licensure and experience will be considered).
  • Extensive knowledge of medical record documentation standards and medical terminology required. Understanding of basic legal and insurance principles and terminology required.

Experience         

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience in a hospital or ambulatory care clinic required.
  • Experience working in an academic setting PREFERRED.
  • Advanced skill in Microsoft Word.
  • Above average skill in Microsoft Excel and other spreadsheet/report formats.
  • Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication and working with physicians and others in a highly professional manner.
